Karen Gray remains to date my favourite author, and that is not a position I offer to just anyone. I find Karen’s work to be the very essence of fantasy at its best. She brings to life an enormous cast of characters, each with depth, backstory, and involved history. The stories themselves are emotionally gripping, full of twists, unexpected revelations and not to mention magic and creatures thought to be only legend. Karen easily creates a full and complete world, inclusive of strife, and it is a world that just becomes more engrossing with every turn of the page.
It took a few days for me to read cover to cover and I was once more left in awe of this author’s skill.
Book three, whilst progressing with the main story arc also continues with many character specific subplots, we are pulled into the struggles of Aron and Nora, which are beautifully portrayed, and of course, we learn more of Brax, after all, who can forget the ending of book two? Central to all is Edward. Battle of the Bannockburn brilliantly portrays the chaos left in the aftermath of the events in book two and continues to escalate events in a page turning bombardment of action, betrayal, companionship and schemes.
I never fail to be amazed by the author’s ability to lull the reader into believing one thing, only to surprise them, nothing is quite as it seems , and with a style of writing as captivating as Karen Gray’s you’ll find yourself loving and hating, cringing and celebrating along with the deep and well-developed cast. And I warn you now, you’re in for some heartbreak.
Karen is definitely an author to watch, every one of her books are simply amazing and I can’t recommend her highly enough to anyone seeking a brilliant and engrossing read.
