A rejection

A little bit of disheartening news this time, my full manuscript was rejected based on them feeling they don’t have a place for it on their current list.
It was a ‘good’ rejection though, they took the time to make it personal and give feedback, all of which, surprisingly, was positive.
They believe my work has merit but as a small publishing firm they don’t feel that they have a place for it.  They were very positive about what they read, the storyline and the quality of it, but they didn’t feel it was right for them.  They seemed sincere in their suggestion that I continue my search for representation.
It was actually quite nice because it wasn’t a form rejection.
My search for an agent or publisher continues, I am still waiting on a few responses, then after these come back, or not, the next ones are due the beginning of March.
I only submit to a few at a time as I try to carefully select who I approach ensuring the work meets their requirements and needs, I am sure as an agent there is nothing worse than being ‘carpet bombed’ with manuscripts, especially if they aren’t quite what you’re looking for.
One thing that does surprise me however, given the current popularity of the genre, is how many agents state ‘no fantasy’.
I hope you are all well, thanks for taking the time to stop by.  Have a great week.
